However, it seems the real fascination lies with clamshell foldables. While expectations for a Google Flip smartphone this year haven’t been met, the notion of a Google Pixel Flip isn’t completely out of the question. Rumors are circulating that Google is exploring the development of a foldable clamshell smartphone, similar to the Galaxy Z Flip series or the Motorola. Razr. Interestingly, several Chinese companies that initially launched book-style foldable models eventually added clamshell models. So if Google follows suit, it wouldn’t be too surprising.

Google Pixel Flip release date
So, if a Pixel Flip is planned, the announcement could take place at one of these two events, more likely at Google I/O, where the Pixel folding was introduced for the first time. Regarding the timeline, previous rumors, as shared by Android Centersuggest that the Pixel Flip could debut in 2025. To find out if 2025 is indeed the year, we’ll have to wait and see.
Name of the device | Announcement | Marketing |

Google Pixel Fold | May 10, 2023 | June 27, 2023 |
Google Pixel Flip | May 2025 (speculated) | 2025 (speculated) |
Google Pixel Flip price
Considering that the Pixel folding is priced similarly to its main competitor, the Galaxy Z Fold 5, it wouldn’t be surprising if a future foldable clamshell smartphone from Google matches the cost of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 5, currently priced at $999.
If the upward trend in smartphone prices persists in the coming years before the Google Pixel Flip’s rumored release, it’s possible that the price could still exceed $999.
Name of Google Pixel Flip
However, rumors are circulating that the tech giant is working on a Pixel phone codenamed “Comet”, which was not part of the project. Pixel 8 family, because it is not named after a breed of dog like the Pixel 8 (Shiba), Pixel 8 Pro (Husky) and the rumored Pixel 8a (Akita). So maybe “Comet” is for the future Pixel Flip.
It remains to be seen whether the clamshell foldable will end up being called Flip or Comet, or perhaps both for different purposes (public and internal naming).
Google Pixel Flip Camera
Like everything else at this point, the camera setup of the upcoming Pixel Flip smartphone remains shrouded in mystery. It’s plausible that the Pixel Flip will adopt a rear camera setup with a primary wide-angle shooter and an ultra-wide camera lined up next to each other, maintaining that distinct Pixel aesthetic.
Pixel Flip Storage
For now, it is reasonable to anticipate a minimum of 8 GB of RAM and a storage capacity of up to 512 GB for the Pixel Flip. The industry and technology landscape is dynamic, so it’s possible to get even better specs between now and the Pixel Flip’s release.
Following the industry trend, including Google and other manufacturers, it is likely that different storage options will be available, each with their own price point.
Google Pixel Flip design and display
This would likely involve a glossy rear panel with significant screen coverage. Google can position a camera visor above or below the screen cover, with options to adopt the standard Pixel design or the Pixel folding design for cameras. A model of Caseology (via Android Central) envisions the Pixel Flip with a Fold-style camera body and a smaller, bar-shaped cover screen.

Expect the screen hinge to resemble the one used on the Pixel folding, or at the very least, an improved iteration. Regarding the display itself, no information is currently available. However, it’s reasonable to expect at least a primary FHD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, similar to that of the Pixel folding offers. In terms of size, if we take the Galaxy Z Flip 5 As a benchmark for comparison with a potential Pixel Flip, one might expect a similar 6.7-inch interior display.
Pixel Flip Battery
In comparison, the Motorola Razr Plus (2023) packs a slightly larger 3,800mAh battery than the Galaxy Z Flip 5, still managing to last a day, making it a solid, average performer. Depending on when the Pixel Flip hits the market and the pace of technological advancement, we can expect a battery size in the 3,800mAh range, or potentially better.
Pixel Flip performance and software
Regarding software, it is almost certain that the Pixel Flip will be equipped with a future version of Android.
Should we wait for Pixel Flip?
However, waiting for the Pixel Flip might be a good decision if you’re a devoted Pixel fan, plan to stick to Pixel smartphones in the future, and aren’t in a rush to get a foldable flip.
On the other hand, if you can’t wait to get your hands on a new foldable phone In the immediate future or in the near future, it is advisable not to wait for the Pixel Flip. There are currently some great alternatives, such as Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Motorola Razr Plus (2023). Additionally, the Oppo Find N2 or the new Find N3 are great options that should not be overlooked.
