The Huawei P70, rumored to pack a 1-inch sensor for its ultra-wide camera, is delayed،
Remember the Huawei P70? Yes, we can't forget about it either – not while the rumor about its alleged 1-inch sensor for the ultra-wide camera is still alive. At the end of January, a statement indicated that the photocentric Huawei P70 would arrive “by the end of March or the beginning of April this year.”
Apparently, that's about to change: popular tipster Digital Chat Station shared the bad news on Chinese social media platform Weibo: the release of Huawei's P70 series will be postponed. Now, this handset is expected to launch in late April, if not later (via Gizmochina).
Some claim that this delay is the result of strengthening US sanctions against China, Huawei and SMIC (Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp). US authorities are set to block SMIC's most advanced factory from receiving more US imports. Indeed, SMIC produced a sophisticated chip for Huawei's Mate 60 Pro, the phone that wasn't supposed to exist, but which unexpectedly materialized in 2023.
Others say the opposite: the delay is due to Huawei being overwhelmed with various products and projects at the same time (new laptops, headphones, smart TVs, development of home products, as well as preparation of the most important series – the premium Mate 70).
Back in January, prominent industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared some predictions regarding the Huawei P70 lineup. According to Kuo, the ultra-wide-angle camera module will be upgraded and bring a giant 1-inch type sensor to one of the devices in the lineup.
1-inch sensors for mobile cameras are rare, and we always celebrate every phone maker that decides to pack a sensor this large (this gives users better low-light photography capabilities, better bokeh, and more Again).
Translated into sales, the potential camera upgrade of the P70 series, shipments are expected to increase by 100-120% compared to those of the Huawei P60 series.
Talking about the P60 series, Huawei has used a vertically aligned triple camera rear design. The central lens being the largest, it was surrounded on the upper and lower sides by an ultra-wide lens and a telephoto lens.
Off-camera specs
It is reported that the P70 will feature a quad-curved OLED display, offering 1.5K resolution. As for size, expect a 6.7-inch panel. It is possible that the upcoming Huawei P70 series will bring a new processor to users, the Kirin 9010. The series is expected to include three smartphones: the standard Huawei P70, the Huawei P70 Pro, and the Huawei P70 Pro Art.
