After making a name for itself in the Apple-dominated tablet market with ultra-affordable and generally compact devices, Amazon finally unveiled a larger-than-average lineup last year. The aptly named Fire Max 11 comes with an 11-inch screen and other specs described by its manufacturer as “premium”, but also at a decidedly not high price.

It normally starts at $229.99 (with lock screen ads), but for a likely limited time, you can knock $60 off a list price of $244.99 without any such interruption. This is of course an entry-level 64GB storage configuration, while a 128GB variant is currently even smaller.

Specifically, you're looking at spending $80 less than the $279.99 Amazon typically charges for this particular Fire Max 11 model, which is only available in a version without the “sponsored screensavers” (that's it). i.e. lock screen ads).

Do these price cuts look familiar? This is probably because they are far from unprecedented. But that doesn't make them any less worthy of your attention, especially outside of your typical holiday promotions. The last time we saw the cheapest variant of the ad-free Fire Max 11 go down to such a low price was around Christmas, while the more expensive model got a similar discount to today 'today, a little more recently.

Powered by a decidedly mediocre MediaTek processor and equipped with an unremarkable 4GB of RAM, the Fire Max 11 is certainly not a high-end tablet by… conventional standards. Compared to everything else in Amazon's iPad rival catalog, however, it's a strong mover, which should be enough to seal the deal for many of the company's die-hard fans.
