Elon Musk: “OpenAI is a lie”, xAI will open-source Grok. Carl Pei: “Based”،
Elon Musk announced that his AI company – xAI – would open source chatbot Grok, OpenAI's ChatGPT rival (via Reuters).
“Open Source” means sharing the code of a program with everyone for free, so that anyone can use it, modify it, and share it again. It's like sharing a recipe publicly, so people can modify it, improve it, or create something new with it. This helps make the program better and more secure because many eyes are looking at it and helping to resolve any issues.
Carl Pei is impressed and comments: Here is the original tweet from Elon Musk himself: Then another X user says: “OpenAI should do the same. If they are “open”, this is what Elon Musk responds to: “OpenAI is a lie”. Nearly a decade later, Musk and Altman are feuding over the future of AI, with Musk suing OpenAI in California, accusing Altman and others of straying from the company's original altruistic mission by seeking profit commercial.
During a podcast with computer scientist Lex Fridman in November, Musk expressed his appreciation for the idea of open source AI. The same month, his startup revealed its AI model to a select group of users.
Following this, in December, Musk's company introduced Grok, a rival to ChatGPT, exclusively for Premium+ subscribers of the social media platform truth to the highest degree.
