OnePlus 12 will feature a triple rear camera. The first line of rumors suggested a 50 MP main sensor, a 50 MP ultra-wide, and a 64 MP telephoto lens. However, we were the first to discover that the OnePlus 12 has a periscope lens.
Building on the same, recent information provided by Digital Chat Station suggests that the Chinese smartphone maker is done with the telephoto sensor and will replace it with the so-called periscope lens. It looks a lot like the Oppo Reno 10 Pro+, which is no surprise. The camera sports 3x optical zoom capabilities. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC computational photography will work in tandem with the 64MP OmniVision OV64B sensor to capture stunning photos. It will also have OIS, which should keep shots super smooth.
Surprisingly, the OnePlus 12’s main camera uses the new Sony IMX966 sensor (similar to the Sony IMX989) with a 1″ type imager that uses a dual-layer construction to compensate for the smaller size. This ultimately improves sensitivity for better photography. There’s also a third 50MP ultra-wide snapper that will complement its triple rear camera setup.
OnePlus 12 specifications
OnePlus 12, the next-gen flagship device, is expected to arrive with a 6.7-inch 2K QHD OLED display. It uses an LTPO panel that intelligently controls 120Hz flawlessly. As noted, it features a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC paired with an Adreno 750 GPU that promises better overall performance. UFS 4.0 storage and LPDDR5T RAM give the OnePlus 12 an edge over its predecessor OnePlus 11 with a performance boost.
OnePlus 12 is expected to arrive with a 5,400mAh battery paired with 150W wired and 50W wireless charging speeds. We’ve already covered the camera setup in the previous section which summarizes what you can expect with the new OnePlus 12.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 broke AnTuTu records
OnePlus 12 will be powered by the next-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC under the hood. The chipset will be announced on October 24. The chipset has already appeared on the AnTuTu GPU test with a score of 8,40,000, making it 40% faster than its predecessor. In the AnTuTu CPU test, its performance is estimated to be 15% better, with a whopping score of 4,40,000 points on the scale.
In total, the overall AnTuTu score for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC is over 2 million points. The prototype that was tested with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC had 16GB of LPDDR5T RAM, which is estimated to be 16% faster than current LPDDR5X RAMs. Note that these tests are conducted in a controlled environment and therefore actual scores may be lower.
OnePlus 12 release date and price
OnePlus usually launches its flagship phones around the first quarter of every year. Looks like the OnePlus 12 will be a bit early as it’s expected to arrive in December at least in China, followed by a global release in early 2024.
