X (Twitter) has recently been in hot water with criticism from users and governments. Now, new data shows that the social media platform lost around 600 million visitors in September alone, reports Android titles.

X down: lost 600 million visitors in September, new data shows

The data comes from SimilarWeb, a company that tracks visits to most websites. According to the data, X went from 6.4 billion visitors in August to 5.8 billion in September. This is not a huge number of lost visitors but it still represents a decrease of almost 10%, which is also not negligible.

Additionally, of the 176 countries visited X in September, we see that 83% of them are seeing a drop in traffic. Additionally, Google Trends data shows that searches on Twitter have been steadily declining since Elon Musk’s arrival.

It will be interesting to see how the platform evolves from here: whether it gains new visitors or loses more, and only time will really tell. Recently, the company announced a pilot program in New Zealand and the Philippines in which new users will have to pay $1 per year to publish on X. It is curious to see how this will play out.
