Caulfield Cup, who will win, tips, predictions, weather, when is it, favourite, live blog, reaction،

A high-capacity field will contest the $5 million Caulfield Cup, and there is no shortage of intrigue surrounding this year’s 2400m handicap.

The weather will be good with a top of 21 at Caulfield on Saturday, so conditions will be perfect for racing with the track expected to be a Good 4.

There were doubts over last year’s Melbourne Cup winner Golden Journey (1)and whether he will run to be saved for the Cox Plate next weekend, but it looks like at this stage he will take his place.

Gold Trip was simply exceptional in winning the first round of the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes, finishing ahead of his rivals for a visually brilliant victory.

Trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman Without combat (2) will have many admirers, and rightly so. His two wins at the Brisbane Winter Carnival were superb, and he ran strong without much luck in taking over the Turnbull.

He’s a horse that has a bit of X factor and good foot rotation for a stayer.

The issue is that Without A Fight had to undergo a veterinary examination on Friday after exhibiting a limp in his leg. If he does not pass the inspection, he will be removed from the race.

Breakup (3) is a Japanese visitor, so that fact alone deserves a lot of respect. Japanese-trained horses have a good record in the Caulfield Cup after Mer De Glace and Admire Rakti won the race in 2019 and 2014 respectively.

Montefilia (4) is a classy mare who knows how to win a Group 1. She returned to her best level during the last start in Sydney.

Champion trainer Chris Waller will also ride Francesco Guardi (5) and Soulcombe (8) as well as Montefilia. The former is on course for the 3200 meters of the Melbourne Cup in just over two weeks, but he should hit hard here.

Waller is apparently in Soulcombe’s camp, based on his quotes from earlier this week.

“I think he’ll shake the two (Cups) well, 3200m is actually an extreme test, we’re not really sure until under the pressure of the race how they handle the two miles,” did he declare.

“All indications are that it shouldn’t be a problem, 2400m he loves, so we should start to see something pretty special on Saturday.”

West Wind Blows (6) was huge in the Turnbull Stakes over a wide run, still managing to beat all the Gold Trip bars in this race. Above all, he meets Gold Trip better at the weights for this mission. Will this be enough to turn the situation around?
