Besides Facebook and Instragram, the Google Play Store also went down today،
Complaints about the Play Store outage came from Android users in US cities like Seattle and from Android owners unable to search for new apps in southwest Brazil. A DownDetector subscriber wrote: “The Play Store doesn't search for apps. It just keeps spinning and spinning. I guess it's playing with rotation instead of doing its job as a store.”
According to Google Play Status Dashboard, an issue with the Play Integrity API began creating the issue around 10:37 a.m. ET and ended at 11:40 a.m. ET. The Play Integrity API helps app developers verify that user actions and requests come from a legitimate Android user who purchased or installed a developer's app or game. It can also detect if the Android user is using a tampered version of the developer's app.
The Google Play Store crashed Tuesday morning
By the way, you may find it interesting to install the DownDetector app on your iPhone or Android handset. Personally, when I'm unable to reach my children on the phone, I open the app to see if my carrier is down. If there's no problem, well, I know it's time to worry.
You can install the application on your iPhone by by clicking on this link which will take you to the App Store. If you have an Android device and the Google Play Store is up and running, you can click on this link to install the Android version of the DownDetector app.
It seems like we all survived a day where Facebook, Instagram and the Play Store crashed in the morning. What will happen next?
