Bayern Munich 3-0 Lazio (5 Mar, 2024) Game Analysis،

Bayern Munich's top scorer Harry Kane scored a goal in each half to help the Germans win 3-0 against Italian Lazio on Tuesday and advance to the Champions League quarter-finals with a 3-1 aggregate victory, reviving title hopes among their supporters.

Kane took the lead in the 38th minute to overturn Lazio's 1-0 first-leg advantage, then scored his third goal on the rebound in the 66th after Thomas Müller's first-half stoppage time time brought the score to 2-0.

The victory brings instant relief to coach Thomas Tuchel and his team who had won just one of their last five matches in all competitions before Tuesday and are currently 10 points off the top of the Bundesliga.

“It's a perfect night for us. It was a great game,” said Kane, who has scored six goals for Bayern in the competition and another 27 in the Bundesliga this season. “We were 1-0 down in the first leg. It's obviously a big moment in our season. It was an excellent performance.

“Of course we know we have to improve, but nights like this can really change the season. I'm really proud of the boys and we just have to keep the momentum going.”

Lazio were behind from the start and waiting to hit the Germans on the break.

Ciro Immobile's header was their best chance, but it went narrowly wide a minute before Kane scored his first last-16 goal in the competition in five years with a diving header.

Bayern Munich players celebrate after scoring a goal against Lazio in the Champions League.

The Italians, vying for their first quarter-final berth in 24 years, had managed to keep Bayern out of the box for half an hour but could do nothing when Kane, who had missed an earlier chance, headed an erroneous kick from his teammate Raphaël Guerreiro.

Jamal Musiala almost added seconds later, but his sliding shot narrowly missed the target before Thomas Mueller headed in a volley from Matthijs de Ligt just before half-time.

Kane now has 27 Champions League goals, with Wayne Rooney the only Englishman to have scored more in the competition (30).

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker dashed any hopes of an Italian comeback in the 68th, capitalizing on the rebound after Leroy Sané's shot had been placed in his path.

The Bavarians refused to let up on the gas and Müller almost scored a second himself, but goalkeeper Ivan Provedel deflected his shot onto the post in the 71st minute.

Bayern have now reached at least the last eight in 12 of the last 13 campaigns.
