Samsung Galaxy devices might be getting a vertical scrolling app drawer this year،

Samsung fans who have been asking for a vertically scrolling app drawer are in luck. After previously removing the option, it appears Samsung has listened to user feedback and will bring this feature back through its Good Lock customization suite.

According to SamMobile, a Samsung community moderator has confirmed that the Good Lock “Home Up” module in the upcoming One UI 6.1.1 update will include the return of vertical scrolling. While the exact release date for the update isn't confirmed, the timeline suggests it could arrive later this year.

For those unfamiliar, Samsung Good Lock is a powerful personalization suite designed exclusively for Samsung Galaxy devices and available through the Galaxy Store. This is not a single application but rather a collection of individual modules, each focusing on a specific area of customization. This allows you to select the exact changes you want for your phone, such as your lock screen, notification panel, recent apps menu, clock styles and much more. It's a bit like having the flexibility of a custom ROM, but without the hassle and complexity. If the Good Lock support team member who responded to the community is correct and vertical app drawer functionality will return to Good Lock with One UI 6.1.1, then we might consider a release at the end of summer. This is based on previous update patterns and speculation that version 6.1.1 would be released alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 foldable phones, both of which are expected to be revealed around July, when rumor has it that the next Galaxy Unpacked event will take place. To take place. However, Samsung has not yet formally confirmed the exact date.

Since using the Galaxy S24 Ultra, I've found that the lack of a vertical app drawer is the most difficult adjustment to make when coming from other Android devices, such as the Google Pixel or OnePlus. I always find myself swiping up instead of sideways because my muscle memory from years of using other Android devices fools my brain. It'll be nice when I don't have to worry about that anymore. Hopefully the rumor schedule stays on track for One UI 6.1.1.
