Sharks star Nicho Hynes is “knocking on the door” of the Kangaroos’ debut, according to Australian coach Mal Meninga.

Hynes initially missed selection, but was called into the squad after Nathan Cleary withdrew due to injury.

He was the 18th man for Australia’s first clash with Samoa at the Pacific Championships, but Meninga indicated he The Sydney Morning Herald that the versatile Hynes is in line to get playing time.

The coach even revealed some of his ideas on how to use the 2022 Dally M Medalist.

“He was really good during the camp, I was happy with the way he handled everything, and Nicho is just a good person, which is ideal,” he said.

” He knocks on the door. And his versatility will come into play.

“We can play him in the centers, we can play him at the back if ‘Teddy’ (James Tedesco) needs rest late in the match, or even in the halves if there is an injury or s There is the possibility of giving someone a boost at the start of the match. We can even give him the role of number 9.

“We’ll see how the week goes. The good news is that he is used to this role and fits in everywhere.

“There are never any guarantees when it comes to team selection, but I will look to give everyone some playing time.”

Hynes was controversially overlooked during Australia’s World Cup campaign last year after winning the game’s highest honor just weeks earlier.

He made his State of Origin debut earlier this year but was thrown into crosses in the final seven minutes of the opener and missed a crucial tackle.

Meanwhile, the Herald reports that Dolphins prop Tom Flegler is also set to make his debut for the Kangaroos and Cowboys star Valentine Holmes is expected to be back in the team.

Holmes missed Australia’s win over Samoa due to a one-match suspension following an off-field incident. The 19 times Kangaroo uploaded a photo of himself on social media holding a bag containing a white substance.

Australia’s next match is against New Zealand on Saturday October 28 at AAMI Park.
