Instagram Messages Feature Drop: Ability To Edit Texts, Disable Read Receipts, Saving Stickers, And More،
Instagram, the Meta-owned instant messaging platform, is adding new messaging features to improve user experience. These features make messaging more flexible and enjoyable for users. First, users can edit posts if they make typos or errors. Second, they can disable read receipts to improve their privacy. Additionally, they can save stickers and change chat themes within the app. That said, here's more information on each new Instagram messaging feature.
Edit posts on Instagram
Users can now edit messages up to 15 minutes after they are sent. To make changes to a message, users can long-press on the sent message and then choose “edit” from the drop-down menu. It is important to mention that these messages appear with an “Edited” tag in discussions. Therefore, it's not like the other person doesn't know when you edit a message. Nonetheless, it is a feature that increases convenience by allowing users to make grammatical or misspelled edits to their Instagram chats.
Disable read receipts for all discussions or a single discussion
Another feature that has made its way to the app is the ability to disable read receipts. As part of the latest Instagram feature, users can turn off read receipts, preventing others from checking whether the post has been seen. To turn off the feature for all chats, users should head to Instagram > Settings & Privacy > Replies to Posts & Stories > Show Read Receipts and turn off the feature by tapping the toggle button to the right.
To turn off read receipts for individual chats, open a conversation, tap the username at the top, select “Privacy & Security” from the next menu, and turn off read receipts from the next menu.
Save stickers and change chat themes
Apart from this, users can now save their favorite stickers in DMs by long-pressing on the sticker they want to save. The next time they want to use it, they'll find it at the top in the stickers section. Additionally, stickers, GIFs, videos, photos, and voice messages are available when users reply to a message. Finally, users can now change the theme of a discussion by tapping the discussion name at the top, navigating to themes, and selecting one from the available options.
Soon, users will also be able to pin discussions on Instagram
In the near future, Instagram users will also be able to pin up to three group or personal chats to the top of their inbox, similar to how one can pin chats in WhatsApp. To pin a chat, users must swipe left or tap, hold a chat, and then select “Pin” from the available options. Following this, the chat will appear at the top of the user's inbox, with a pin icon. This particular feature has proven to be very useful on WhatsApp, allowing users to quickly access a few chats that they open regularly, and it should also benefit Instagram users.
