MG Motor India has made significant adjustments to its lineup, introducing two new trim levels for its flagship vehicle, the Hector SUV. This strategic maneuver aims to strengthen Hector's competitive positioning against its main competitors. By implementing these changes, MG has managed to establish a more attractive base price for the Hector, presenting potential buyers with an improved value proposition.

Before the update, the MG Hector had a diverse range of trim levels including Style, Shine, Smart, Smart Pro, Sharp Pro and Savvy Pro. However, in a strategic move, MG has introduced two new trim levels: Shine Pro and Select Pro, while removing the Shine and Smart versions from the range.

Price

Recent price adjustments reveal significant changes to the Hector range. The base Style Petrol MT variant now gets a substantial price cut of Rs. 9,999. 95,000, with its starting price set at Rs. 95,000. 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Meanwhile, the Shine Pro version starts at Rs. 9,999. 16 lakh for the Petrol MT suit, while the Select Pro variant starts at Rs. 9,999. 17.3 lakh for the Petrol MT configuration (both prices ex-showroom). These adjustments aim to improve the accessibility and competitiveness of the Hector range, providing customers with greater value for their investment.

MG Hector Specifications and Powertrain

This restructuring results in a streamlined hierarchy for the Hector, starting with the base Style and progressing through Shine Pro, Select Pro, Smart Pro, Sharp Pro, and the top tier Savvy Pro. On the other hand, the Select Pro trim is offered on all powertrain combinations for the Hector 5-seater, except the Petrol CVT option for the Hector Plus Select Pro 7-seater variant.

The Shine Pro version of the Hector features a host of exterior highlights, including LED daytime running lights, projector headlights, connected LED taillights and floating sequential LED indicators. It also comes with front and rear fog lights, as well as stylish 17-inch alloys. Inside, the Shine Pro trim offers a host of premium features, like a 14-inch portrait-style infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Other notable amenities include a 7-inch fully digital instrument cluster, soft-touch plastics, single-panel sunroof, wireless charger, push-button start, cruise control, automatic transmission, refrigerated gloves and two airbags. Safety features include a rear parking camera, cornering light function, all four disc brakes and an electronic parking brake (available with the CVT variant).

The Hector's powertrain options remain unchanged. The 1.5L turbo petrol engine delivers 143 PS of maximum power and 250 Nm of peak torque, available with a 6-speed manual or CVT gearbox. Meanwhile, the 2.0L diesel engine, offering 170 PS of maximum power and 350 Nm of peak torque, is mated exclusively to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Despite the premium positioning of the Hector and Hector Plus SUVs, the diesel variant is limited to the manual transmission option.
