Next-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 to be clocked at 4.3GHz،
Qualcomm is gearing up for one of the biggest launches this year. Scheduled for the Snapdragon Summit, the chip designer will announce the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC. It would be clocked at 4.3 GHz with the possibility of overclocking it further in the case of a “Plus” version. It uses TMSC's 3nm process and packs eight custom-made Oryon cores along with a 7th generation Snapdragon X80 5G RF modem.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC will be the most powerful chipset ever
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was announced in October 2023 with a maximum frequency of 3.4 GHz. If that's not enough for you, get ready to witness the epitome of performance with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC. Several leaks suggest that it will surpass the 4.0 GHz mark once it arrives. The chipset is likely to reach the maximum frequency of 4.3 GHz with its octa-core configuration.
Qualcomm will follow MediaTek's steps in ditching efficiency cores. Instead, it will use two main cores and six high-performance cores. When it comes to the main cores, we're talking about Qualcomm's custom-made Oryon cores. It remains to be seen how the high-performance cores and inefficiency cores integrated into the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC work in its favor or against it.
Going further, it will bring the Adreno 830, certainly the most powerful GPU to handle the heavy lifting. According to Revegnus on
According to Mishaal Rahman (via), the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC will likely use the latest Snapdragon X80 5G RF which brings a 6-antenna architecture and 6X carrier aggregation. The model is packed with AI features including the ability to expand the range of fixed wireless access applications, 30% faster link acquisition and 20% reduced best cell selection time. among others.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 launch timeline
Qualcomm CEO Don Mcquire has confirmed that a Snapdragon summit will take place in October this year. This is where Qualcomm's most powerful flagship processor will be announced: the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC. For now, the chipset is in the design phase and the finalized version will be ready in April 2024. It will be shipped to OEMs in June, followed by mass production in September before being officially announced in October 2024.
Xiaomi is obviously among the early takers with the Xiaomi 15 series, although OnePlus and a few other brands will make their way by launching their flagship phones around the same lines.
