Here are 13 workarounds that might help resolve “Airtel network not working” issues

1. Checking APN settings

The hotspot name, commonly known as APN settings, resides in your phone and the device reads these settings to establish a connection between the phone and the Internet Service Provider (Airtel). APN offers the device the required settings that allow the phone to understand what type of internet connection it is using (3G, 4G or 5G) and also know the ports and security settings for encryption.

The APN can be manually set by the user on their device. APN settings are received from Airtel by simply sending an SMS or you can configure them by going to settings. Here are the steps to check APN settings-

  • Open Settings on your smartphone.
  • Go to the Network & Internet Settings tab.
  • Click Internet Settings.
  • Choose the gear icon next to the Airtel name to open Settings.
  • Scroll down and choose Hotspot Name Settings.
  • Tap the “+” icon to add new APN settings for your phone.

Enter the following values in the APN fields and press to save the settings.

Name AIRTEL
APN airtelgprs.com
Proxy
Port 8080
username
Password
Server Airtellive.com
MMSC
MMS Proxy
MMS Port 80
CCM: 404
Multinational enterprise : ten
APN protocol IPV4/IPV6
APN Enable

2. Turn off flight mode

On modern smartphones, activating airplane mode disconnects its access to the network. This mode was introduced for use during a flight when mobile networks are interrupted by the aircraft's radio frequency.

Now the mode has found more uses. It can be used when you're not flying, but need a break from the continuous notifications on your device. The only problem is that we sometimes forget to deactivate the mode after finishing work, resulting in complete Internet disconnection, which can be a cause for concern.

Checking the flight mode status is very simple. All you need to do is swipe down on the Quick Settings pane and check whether Airplane Mode is on or off. If it's already off, you can turn it on and off to reestablish connection to the nearest network tower. This helps achieve network connectivity and increase internet speeds.

3. Change SIM slot

In different smartphones, the network ports and bands are different depending on the SIM slot. Most dual SIM slots are available on all phones and SIM 1 slot supports most broadband networks. So it is better to use Airtel SIM card in slot 1 for better connectivity. Check if it is in slot 2, then reinsert it into slot 1 to get uninterrupted services.

4. Check signal strength/network coverage

If you are unable to access mobile data, send/receive messages or call someone, the first thing to do is check the signal strength displayed at the top of the device in the status bar. Moving to a different area can also help receive better signal strength. Check Airtel network coverage by by clicking here.

5. Turn mobile data on/off

One of the quickest and easiest solutions is to turn mobile data on and off from the Quick Settings menu. This can also be done from your device's Control Center or Settings menu. Small problems are resolved using this method.

6. Turn off Wi-Fi

Some smartphones favor stronger WiFi connections over mobile data. To fix this, you will need to turn off WiFi from the Quick Settings menu so that mobile data starts working.

7. Restarting the device

The oldest classic workaround is to turn it off and restart it. The same works for Airtel Network as well. Restart your device to fix minor bugs with the network. After restarting the device, check if you can connect calls, send messages or access the Internet.

8. Checking Active Internet Connection

If you haven't paid your bill or recharged your device in a while, you'll need to recharge it to resolve the connection issue. If you have switched to Airtel from another operator, wait at least four hours for the SIM card to start making calls. SMS service will need a maximum of 24 hours after porting.

9. Check Inactive SIM Card

Sometimes your SIM card is deactivated due to insufficient balance or long period of non-use. In such a scenario, you will need to check the SIM card status by asking a family member or friend to call you on that number. As soon as they attempt to make the call, your SIM status will be announced as inactive, informing you of the problem.

The status of the SIM card can also be checked by calling Airtel customer care at 111 or 121 or writing a request by mail to [email protected]. Dial *106# and choose the first option also lets you know the details of your NMR.

10. Firmware Update

The current software on your device may be faulty. Check for updates and update to the latest version to resolve any issues with the Airtel network.

11. Resetting network settings

Resetting your network can also help resolve Airtel network issues. The basic method to change network settings of Android phones is as follows:

  • Go to Settings, then go to “General Management”.
  • Choose “Reset”, then “Reset mobile network settings”.

The method may differ from phone to phone, so check Google for the exact way to reset your settings.

12. Contact customer service

If none of the above methods work for you, the problem may be on Airtel's side. Contact Airtel customer care and they will guide you to resolve the issue. If troubleshooting doesn't work, they will send a manager to your door to look into the problem. You can also ask the customer service executive if there is a power outage in your area. The customer care number – area code followed by 44444121. Like for example, for Delhi the area code is 011 so dial 011-44444121. Here is the list of all area codes for Airtel.

13. Network Downtime

Sometimes a specific network is down on a national or regional level. These instances of downtime also affect network coverage. If your Airtel Internet is not working, you can use another network's SIM card to check whether the Internet is working or not. Social media platforms like Instagram and X (Twitter) also indicate when such issues arise. If this is the problem, wait until the connection is restored in your area. Airtel users also receive a message informing them that the network has been restored.
