Instagram Takes Another Page From Snapchat’s Book Of Features: Check Details Here،
Social platform Instagram, owned by Meta, is working on a new feature called “Friend Map”. Essentially, the feature is similar to Snapchat's Snap Map, where users can navigate to their friend's location and explore other nearby attractions. Although the Friend Map feature is currently being tested internally, it has already been spotted by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi. Let's take an in-depth look at the new Instagram feature, what it does, and when it will be available.
What is the Friends Card feature and how does it work?
In a recent report, TechCrunch mentioned that Meta spokesperson confirmed the Friend Map feature. Based on screenshots posted by Paluzzi on Threads, the Friend Map feature allows users to share their friends' locations on Maps. A short excerpt from the screenshots says: “Find a new excuse to share on the go with your friends.”
With the Friend Map feature, Instagram users should be able to choose which friends they are with. Additionally, anything shared with a location tag (e.g. notes about a particular location) will appear on the map. Finally, the screenshots also reveal that the location shared by Instagram remains end-to-end encrypted, meaning that not even the platform should be able to access it, much less mediators or hackers.
The friends map will contain several privacy-related options
Additionally, the feature will also allow users to control who can see their last active location without affecting the visibility of notes or tags that users leave on the map. Like Snapchat, users will benefit from a ghost mode that will hide their last active location from everyone using the app.
Given the breadth of information available, it appears that the Instagram Friend Map feature could be rolling out soon. Since the platform has more users than Snapchat, there is a good chance that the feature will succeed in attracting users' attention.
