T-Mobile is fastest in North America but U.S. carriers are MIA in major categories worldwide،

According to data compiled by Opensignal From July 1, 2023 to December 27, 2023, T-Mobile is the fastest wireless service provider in North America. The operator had an average data download speed of 109 Mbps, outpacing the continent's second-fastest wireless provider, Canada's Bell, by 46.3%. Canadian company Telus comes third with an average data download speed of 73.1 Mbps. TMobile's average data download speed was twice as fast as the first runner-up in the United States.
TMobile had the fastest data download speed in North America, as we said. But how did this happen on a global scale? Compared to other carriers operating in countries characterized by Opensignal as Group 1 (markets with an area of more than 200,000 square kilometers), TMobileThe average speed of 109 Mbps was the second fastest after Telenor in Norway, which had an average data download speed of 124.3 Mbps. Generally, TMobile had the sixth fastest download speed in the world. However, TMobile subscribers ended up with a 4G or 5G signal only 98.4% of the time, compared to US leader AT&T (99.2%) and runner-up Verizon (99.1%).
TMobile also had the best overall video experience in the US, meaning subscribers watching streaming videos get a better experience than Verizon and AT&T customers. This is despite the Opensignal report showing that no US operator finished in the top 15 in video experience in Group 1. No US operator finished in the top 15 in consistent quality for Group 1 . TMobile, Verizonand AT&T were also absent from the list of top 15 carriers with the fastest data download speeds in Group 1.

Opensignal's Global Mobile Network Experience report highlights that the number of 5G connections year-over-year (according to GSMA Intelligence) increased by 58% to 1.59 billion connections last year. This data indicates that 18% of all connections in 2023 had 5G connectivity. Before moving on from 5G, this figure needs to increase as the current figure shows that less than one in five connections worldwide are established via 5G.
