Is T-Mobile and its app-less phone about to make app developers obsolete?،

As a civilization we have simply bred app developers – it hasn't even been 30 years since the first mobile app appeared in 1997 – the game Snake for Nokia is considered by many to be the pioneer of apps. It seems we should stop this and leave behind these poor mobile code wizards who will have to find another type of occupation. This is if T-Mobile's futuristic idea for an app-less phone becomes a reality:

This was stated by Tim Hoettges, CEO of Deutsche Telekom, during a presentation at the MWC technology conference in Barcelona (via Reuters).

Avid PhoneArena readers already learned about this heretical app-less phone idea in our MWC article which outlined what we can expect from Spain's ongoing mobile technology forum.

The German company (which is also T-Mobile's largest shareholder) said the concept device, called “T-phone,” will have an app-less user interface developed in collaboration with partners Qualcomm and Brain.ai.

The “T-Phone” (not the T-Bone) will rely on artificial intelligence rather than standard applications to meet specific user needs.

“Like a concierge, the assistant understands your goals and takes care of the details,” says the company, and specifies that the phone will be able to book a flight for you simply by voice command. The showcase uses real-world examples to demonstrate how an AI smartphone can make life easier when planning trips, shopping, creating videos or editing photos.

Jon Abrahamson, Chief Product & Digital Officer at Deutsche Telekom, is convinced: “Artificial intelligence and large language models (LLM) will soon become an integral part of mobile devices. We will use them to improve and simplify the lives of our customers. Our vision is a magenta concierge for a smartphone without an app. A true everyday companion that meets needs and simplifies digital life.”
