After much anticipation and waiting, the OnePlus Open, OnePlus’ first foldable phone is here! It comes with plenty of promises and an impressive spec sheet, which of course includes the camera system comprising three cameras on the back and two selfie sensors, one for each screen.

If you’ve been following OnePlus and its phones over the past few years, you probably suspected that the company would continue its relationship with popular camera brand Hasselblad, and you wouldn’t be wrong.

OnePlus Open Camera Features

The 48MP main (wide angle) camera on the OnePlus Open is a first in the foldable phone market, as it is equipped with Sony’s new LYTIA “Pixel Stacked” image sensor. Of course, for most of us, these are just words and abbreviations. To put it in simple terms, it is a sensor capable of capturing larger amounts of light without having the large sensor that comes with usual flagship phones.

According to OnePlus, this new sensor offers image quality comparable to that of the Sony IMX989 that comes with the Galaxy S23 Ultra. If this really turns out to be the case, then we have high hopes for this main camera!

The 64MP telephoto camera, meanwhile, comes with a custom sensor to fit the slim body of the OnePlus Open. This customization also allows for 23% more light than the regular sensor would otherwise have allowed. It comes with 3X optical zoom and sensor crop that allows lossless 6X sensor crop. There’s also an Ultra Res 120x zoom, but we don’t think it’s useful because a lot of it depends on the software and artificial intelligence, which OnePlus isn’t really known for.

OnePlus also placed emphasis on Portaite mode, where the Hasselblad partnership came into play with the OnePlus Open. The company claims it’s particularly powerful in low-light conditions, allegedly matching a Hasselblad camera with XCD 30, 65, and 90V lenses.
