Foldable smartphones today struggle to overcome a major drawback directly inherited from the form factor: bulk. Most early foldable phones were big and heavy, and OnePlus made a very conscious effort to make the OnePlus Open as thin and light as possible without compromising durability.

In the hardware department, the OnePlus Open is a full-featured demo with its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, 16GB of fast LPDDR5X RAM, and 512GB of UFS 4.0 onboard storage. There’s not much to say here; these are high-level specs worthy of any flagship, whether foldable or more conventional.

The built-in software is OxygenOS 13.2 with Open Canvas UI to make the most of the large interior screen. This user interface comes with multiple resizable and expandable windows, desktop-style taskbar, and compatibility with popular apps like Gmail, OneNote, Google Message, Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp, etc.

OnePlus has been at the forefront of fast smartphone charging with its SuperVOOC technology. THE OnePlus Open has a relatively large 4,805 mAh battery and supports wired fast charging with up to 67W of power.
