Man City boss Guardiola eyes international job in future

Pep Guardiola has said he wants to lead a national team at a major tournament before retiring from coaching.

Guardiola has a contract at Manchester City until 2025 and has not ruled out signing an extension.

He has already been linked with roles in Brazil, England and the United States and has said he would like to take charge of a major tournament – ​​the World Cup, European Championship or Copa America – before the end of his career.

Asked by ESPN Brazil what he still needs to achieve, Guardiola replied: “A national team. I would like to coach a national team for a World Cup or a European Championship. I would love that.”

Asked if he had a preference as to which country he managed, the 53-year-old replied: “I don't know who would want me! To work for a national team, they must want you , just like a club.”

Guardiola has already had a successful coaching career, winning titles in Spain, Germany and England and winning the Champions League three times.

His spells in charge of Barcelona, ​​Bayern Munich and City saw him win 32 major trophies, but he said he had not set his sights on adding the World Cup, Euros or the Copa America.

“I never thought of it like that [with the goal to win a world Cup],” he said.

“When I started there, I never thought about winning a league title or winning the Champions League. No. I thought: I have a job? OK.

“I would like to have the experience of living a World Cup, a Euro or a Copa América, or whatever it is. I would like that.

“I don't know when it will happen, if it's in five, 10 or 15 years, but I would like to have the experience of being a coach at a World Cup.”
