Looking ahead to a significant future, top engineering colleges backed by Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries are developing India's first-ever ChatGPT-like tool, scheduled to launch next month. Eight colleges from the Indian Institute of Technology and Reliance Jio Infocomm along with the Indian central government formed a consortium giving a first look at a recent technology conference held in Mumbai.

India's ChatGPT (or BharatGPT) is called Hanooman and will offer a breakthrough in AI technology through which people will be able to converse in regional languages. The demo presented at the conference showed how a mechanic can ask questions in the Tamil language, while a Hyderabad-based software developer sought Hanoman's help in writing computer code and a banker asked questions in hindi.

According to reports, the Hanooman AI tool is being built with 11 local languages and will mainly serve four sectors, namely education, financial services, governance and healthcare. The tool will have text-to-speech capabilities to make it easier for users, because even with widely available education, there are still millions of people in India who cannot read or write.

Reliance Jio creates custom LLM models to meet specific uses. Its AI wing, Jio Brain, will introduce the service to 450 million subscribers in the country. As in the case of ChatGPT and other generative AI, Hanooman will be based on large language models, although captivated by targeting a different genre of LLM that could provide users with natural responses in the era where ChatGPT started working on extremely large LLM models. .

Unfortunately, we don't know exactly what Hanooman is capable of at the moment. It is expected to arrive next month i.e. March 2024, although the exact date is also not available.
