Steward replaces Smith as England make 3 changes for semifinal،

PARIS — England made three changes for Saturday’s Rugby World Cup semi-final against South Africa with Freddie Steward returning at fullback and Marcus Smith left out of the squad for the day.

Steward is one of three changes from the team that beat Fiji on Sunday, with Joe Marler and George Martin also starting.

Steward replaces Smith, who retires on the 23, while Marler starts ahead of Ellis Genge and Martin gets the nod on the second row in place of Ollie Chessum.

Elsewhere, Owen Farrell has captained the side since the opening.

“After a great few days of preparation in Paris, we are looking forward to the challenge of playing against the world champions and the number one team in the world,” said Steve Borthwick.

During this tournament the team has progressed, with players repeatedly finding a way to win, sometimes in difficult circumstances. We will have to be at our best again this weekend against an excellent team in South Africa.

“There is no doubt that the players will truly enjoy the challenge of knockout rugby under the lights of Paris. These players, as they have done in every match of this tournament, will give absolutely their all in the semi-final to secure the desired result.

“I also know that our supporters will be there again in their thousands, playing their full part in supporting the team. To all those who have traveled and to all those providing support and encouragement from home, I say ‘thank you’ You.'”
