Celebs may use the iPhone 15, but here’s why these 1% billionaires lean towards Android flagships،

Apple is a genius when it comes to marketing. It has managed to position itself as a luxury brand; people perceive iPhones as luxury items, as a sign of good financial standing.

Even though Android phones can be much more expensive than your average iPhone, iPhones are considered the top tier smartphone in today's zeitgeist.

But what do high-ranking individuals choose? What smartphone brands do the richest 1% of society choose? And what can this teach the rest of us? Let's try to find out!

Bill Gates uses a foldable Android phone – Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5

Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, with a net worth of USD 124 billion, uses a Galaxy Z fold 5 right now, and a Z Fold 4 before that. And the Z Fold 3 before that! He has essentially remained loyal to Samsung despite most of its growing pains. It's safe to say that Gates is a tech enthusiast like most of us, given his long history with Microsoft and his turbulent, sometimes frenetic, relationship with Apple legend Steve Jobs.

Should we even pretend to be surprised that a multi-billionaire businessman like him would prefer the unique, productivity-enhancing form factor of the Galaxy Z Fold over an iPhone 15? Barely.

Like the rest of us Z Fold fans (I use the Z fold 5 myself at the moment), he doesn't seem to mind the little hassles of carrying around a bulkier phone that needs to be constantly unfolded, if that equates to having a pocketable, cutting-edge, powerful tablet on hand at all times. YOU.

I have to wonder: Is Gates one of those people who actually uses Samsung DeX? Is he taking advantage of the whole niche, nice Z fold 5 productivity features? Or is he just a fan of the unique form factor?

Either way, a “normie” iPhone clearly won't be enough for him, especially since Apple was a bitter rival in his eyes during many, many years of working at Microsoft.

Mark Zuckerberg uses a flagship Android with a stylus – Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

Mark Zuckerberg, who is among the four richest people in the world, was often seen rocking a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra last year. It's possible that he's already upgraded to the new S24 Ultra, but the fact is that the Facebook billionaire clearly prefers Samsung's popular flagship to whatever Apple has in store.

Unlike Bill Gates, Zuck apparently prefers the more traditional panel phone form factor over extravagant foldable designs, but his phone still has one niche gadget: a built-in stylus.

But that's unlikely to be the reason he chose this phone, given that the Galaxy S23 is typically a high-end Android flagship.

Chances are the CEO of Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook) simply wanted to choose the highest-end non-Apple phone, and naturally ended up with the Samsung. Galaxy S23 Ultra. Fair enough!

Jeff Bezos is a mystery, but we can speculate

Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon, worth $190.7 billion, isn't as open about which smartphone he uses. In fact, he has very good reasons to remain discreet about it.

Unreliable sources claim he's currently carrying a Google Pixel or Samsung Galaxy phone, although I'm willing to bet it's neither.

We know that Bezos used an iPhone in 2020, which unfortunately was hacked via WhatsApp. This event likely caused him to switch sides to Android, but it's safe to assume he chose a niche, ultra-security-oriented version of Android over a security-oriented phone. Perhaps tailor-made for him alone, at least on the software side.

What brand this phone might be, we don't know, but that's the whole point – mr. Bezos has every reason to keep it a secret. Regardless, it is most likely an Android-based smartphone.

Elon Musk is an exception (as in most other areas), Warren Buffet too, but we can understand why

However, not all of the richest people in the world are on Team Android, for a variety of understandable reasons.

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, chairman of $205.2 billion X (formerly Twitter), has reportedly been seen with iPhones and Samsung Galaxy phones in recent years.

He mentioned that he preferred the iPhone and was using one at the moment. We also can't ignore some crazy rumors going around claiming that it might launch its own “Tesla Pi” phone one day, even though they are obviously unfounded and unlikely.

Warren Buffett is a name you may not have heard of, but he is also one of the 10 richest people in the world. A legendary investor and businessman, he is currently worth USD 133.3 billion at age 93.

Given his age and field of work, it's no surprise that he's not as interested in smartphones as some of the tech billionaires we mentioned earlier. In fact, he is known to have used a flip phone for many, many years, before Tim Cook convinced him to start using an iPhone, by constantly sending him free ones. Clever!

The latest reports indicate that Buffett is still using the 2019 iPhone 11.

Should you join the billionaires club and start using Android flagships?

It seems that, like most of us, billionaires use either an iPhone or a Samsung Galaxy. You don't see many using an Asus, Sony, Xiaomi phone, or one of the many other options. Just the most popular brands.

But unlike the majority of casual consumers, it seems some of the top 1% really like niche Android flagships with specific gadgets. Whether it's the foldable Z Fold or the stylus-equipped S23 Ultra…

Ultimately, it makes sense that tech billionaires would prefer an interesting and unique niche phone over the safe and comfortable iPhone.

So, should you switch to Android if you are an iPhone user? Well, that’s up to the individual in you. But let us know: are you using an iPhone or android phone, and would you still use this phone if you were to become a billionaire tomorrow? Or would you go crazy and buy an ultra-extravagant gold-plated iPhone, unlike the billionaires on this list?
