Pies skipper Darcy Moore opens up on Jack Ginnivan exit, Trade period, Hawthorn, Collingwood،

Collingwood captain Darcy Moore has opened up about the “pretty brutal” reality of the AFL after his grand final-winning teammate Jack Ginnivan was traded to Hawthorn during the trade period.

Less than three weeks ago, both men were part of the Collingwood team that won the club’s 16th premiership.

But after the Magpies landed Lachie Schultz from Fremantle earlier in the week, Ginnivan saw the writing on the wall and, with the club not fighting hard to keep him, requested the trade.

Hawthorn quickly caught up and on Thursday Ginnivan was pictured wearing a Hawks guernsey.

This isn’t the first time he’s been photographed wearing a Hawks jersey, however, as he grew up a crazy fan of the club.

But the look didn’t seem to suit his former skipper Moore very well.

Speaking on Thursday’s episode of The project where he was a guest host, Moore was asked about considering Ginnivan a hawk.

Waleed Aly asked, “How does it feel to see these colors on him? »

Moore replied: “It feels weird. Jack, what are you doing? To come back.

“It’s very surreal, isn’t it?”

Panelist and comedian Sam Taunton asked: “Is he dead to you now?

Without missing a beat, Moore responded, “Who died?” I don’t know.”

Host Sarah Harris said: “Isn’t it weird playing side by side with this guy and the next minute seeing him in a different uniform, also knowing all the secrets of your team?”

Moore: “I know, he’s going to tell all our secrets to the Hawks now.

“No, it’s weird but it happens every year, this reminder to all of us that professional sports, we love it and as teammates we are so connected and we look out for each other, but in times exchange, it’s quite brutal.”

Aly wondered if this had to happen so quickly.

The trade period (October 9-18) began a week after the Grand Final (September 30), while the free agency period began a few days earlier (October 6-13).

“Should we win a flag on Saturday then look for a new club on Friday? This seems difficult,” Aly asked.

“Do you think there should be a little amnesty period?” Moore responded.

Taunton then asked Moore if he could ever see himself in another Guernsey – “Like on the Gold Coast if they added a lifetime membership to Wet’n’Wild?”

Moore joked: “Maybe we and Dreamworld will work out a deal.” »

Ginnivan said it was “a dream come true to finally don the maroon and gold.”

“One of my favorite players was Sam (Mitchell), growing up watching him, having his number on your back, those are things you dream about when you’re little and to have it happen is so special,” Ginnivan said.

Ginnivan was deemed a commercial ‘steal’ according to Fox Footy’s David King after being signed on a four-year deal.

But King warned the 20-year-old will need to be “more back page, less front page” at his new club after a controversial few years at Collingwood.

Ginnivan was criticized for his appearance at the Moonee Valley races the day before the grand final, in a move that reportedly became the “last straw” for the Pies following his pre-season drugs ban.
