WhatsApp's status section, typically used to share quick updates with friends and close contacts, was recently reportedly integrated into Instagram. And now it looks like another update is on the horizon.

According to WABetaInfo, a trusted source for WhatsApp updates, the Meta-owned messaging app is gearing up to improve the Updates tab interface. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta update for Android 2.24.4.23, found on the Google Play Store, it has been revealed that WhatsApp is working on a new interface for the status update bar.

In the attached screenshot, you can see a preview of an upcoming update that lets users try out a redesigned interface for the status updates bar. The status bar remains at the top of the Updates tab, ensuring that it is easily accessible whenever users open this tab.

What's new? Well, the revamped interface allows users to preview the first shared status update via its tile. This means you won't have to open each update individually. The new interface for the status bar is currently under development and is expected to be rolled out in a future app update.

The upcoming interface for the status updates bar could be a welcome change in the user experience. Previously, many users were frustrated with the new horizontal layout of status updates, which replaced the convenient thumbnail preview of updates shared with the profile picture. This change made navigation less intuitive and efficient, as users had to open each update individually to view its contents.

On another note, WhatsApp is still experimenting with a feature to use usernames instead of phone numbers. The app is also exploring cross-platform features, potentially allowing users to send messages to other apps like iMessage, Telegram, Google Messages, Signal, etc.
