Apple reportedly halts work on foldable iPhone after one of its concerns comes true،

What's wrong with Apple? A little over a week ago, it was rumored that a foldable iPhone was looking increasingly secure, as Apple was reportedly developing a clamshell foldable iPhone prototype similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip series. Although Apple had concerns about the durability and usefulness of such a device, it reportedly met with an Asian manufacturer to discuss producing components for two foldable iPhone models.
Today a tech video blogger using the title Fixed focus digitalwith enormous success The Chinese platform Weibo, said that Apple halted development of a foldable iPhone due to a problem we mentioned in the first paragraph. Apparently Apple was worried about the durability of a clamshell foldable iPhone. The report adds that Apple purchases foldable phones made by competing manufacturers, including Samsung.

The Weibo post indicates that Apple is reverse engineering the foldable phones from other manufacturers it purchased and at least one of the prototypes it made used a display supplied by Samsung. But Fixed focus digital says a foldable display supplied by Samsung and used in a foldable iPhone prototype “failed after a few days” of extensive testing by Apple. This led Apple to halt work on a foldable iPhone until a more durable display could be found that met Apple's high standards.

Foldables don't appear in Apple's roadmaps for 2024 and 2025 and if today's report is legit, it would seem that at this point we shouldn't expect a foldable iPhone of such early. However, the report does not specify whether Apple is abandoning the rumored portable iPad. Such a device has some advantages in terms of durability, as a foldable iPad would not have to spend time in the user's pockets and the device would be thicker than a foldable iPhone.
Recently, The Elec reported that for the iPhone's 20th anniversary in 2027, Apple is considering releasing a foldable iPad to replace the 8.3-inch iPad mini. These rumors seem to be changing very quickly, so keep contacting us at PhoneArena for the last one.
