So, what could a “OnePlus 12 Ultra” have that a Galaxy S24 Ultra doesn’t already have?،

Recently, we heard that people are excited about a new phone currently up for pre-order. We're talking about the Oppo Find X7 Ultra, and unfortunately, we're not talking about a global release after this pre-order period. Some Oppo fans made a curious statement that actually sparked this article: “Why isn't Oppo releasing this phone globally as OnePlus 12 Ultra?Apparently there's something here that puts people on guard: I mean, the phone got 1 million pre-reservations, after all.

So, in a parallel universe, Oppo launches the Find X7 Ultra as OnePlus 12 Ultra overall. Let's talk about what this phone has that other flagships on the global market currently don't have, and try to understand where this enthusiasm comes from.

The camera

The Find X7 Ultra (or, in our parallel universe, the OnePlus 12 Ultra) boasts extensively about its camera prowess. And there is certainly something to brag about. We have the world's first dual periscope telephoto lenses with large sensors (14mm-270mm quality zoom).) on this bad boy. The phone also has an advanced 1-inch Sony LYT-900 sensor. The partnership with Hasselblad (a leading manufacturer of medium format digital cameras and lenses) is also present.

Zoom in Zoom out

Smartphone camera zoom has never been particularly spectacular, but devices like the Galaxy S Ultra devices have taken things up a notch when it comes to zoom. Generally, if you're familiar with zoom lenses (not the ones on phones, but the serious ones!): they're huge, bulky and, well, don't exactly fit on a smartphone body.

Of course, technology is constantly evolving, and even without getting into the fancy history of smartphone zooms, I can tell you this: we now have a perfectly good zoom range on phones like the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Now we'll explore what images from flagship smartphone zooms look like and what Oppo can bring.

Let's start with the S24 Ultra. Samsung's flagship is capable of achieving up to 5x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom (meaning it crops the image).

Let's look at some examples of the Galaxy's zoom capabilities:

At first glance, these photos are stunning. But when we zoom in to 10x, we see noise in the sky, and the 30x has gone to Galaxy-looking land.

The iPhone competitor comes with what's called a Tetraprism telephoto lens, which almost looks like a periscope lens. It's available if you want to zoom in up to 5x, and the rest is, again, cropped. In the 10x photo you can see some noise in the background, especially on the bottom tiles. The text is readable, however, but the quality isn't exactly the best out there.

Now, the Pixel 8 Pro is another phone that can rival the zoom capabilities. Google Champion also has a periscope lens (it can give you 5x optical zoom, extra zoom is achieved with crop-AI-magic). The camera however has 48MP, so a little less than the Oppo's 50MP.

THE Pixel 8 Pro:

As you can see, random things are happening with the details in the 10x photo. Some things are not clear (like the base of the lamp) and we hear noise.

Now let's talk about the wolf. The big bad wolf Oppo.

The Find X7 Ultra is equipped with two periscope cameras, each sporting a resolution of 50MP. The first is a 3x periscope zoom camera – equivalent to a 65mm for serious photographers. It also has a large sensor that collects lots of light information for clearer shooting.

If you want to zoom in further, you get the second 6x periscope telephoto lens, equivalent to a 135mm lens. That's pretty substantial considering the Ultra's 5x periscope zoom lens is equivalent to 115mm. Basically 135mm zooms further than 115mm.

Overall, the Oppo is the only one with a 6x periscope telephoto lens. And that's not all: the Oppo is the only one where both telephoto lenses have resolutions of 50 MP, which suggests better quality zoom shots. This practically means that the Oppo offers more possibilities for zoom shots that can actually be used for something: whether it's social media, creative photography, etc.

Overall, giving you more options for taking zoom photos gives you the creative freedom to do whatever you want without worrying too much about photo quality. As you probably know, the zoom camera can also be used to take portraits. And creative freedom is what people want, it seems, or at least, this is the case according to Oppo.

Design: we're all looking, Oppo Find X7 Ultra on the podium

You may notice that the hot products these days have become like twins. More or less. From different mothers, but still. Seriously, we have the same general design, the glass sandwich look – it's polished, it's pretty, but it's getting redundant.

Our review units also sport the same (okay, similar) colors. Seriously, it's not on purpose! But do you see the glass sandwich brotherhood?

The Oppo (or the potential OnePlus 12 Ultra in our parallel universe) brings us something else. It has a two-tone leather design, a sizable large camera island, and a look that says it all. Basically, Oppo offers something that feels like a camera and a phone in one. Even though some people don't like this design, I can't say it isn't unique.

The phone offers all that…plus the flagship basics

Of course, we will briefly discuss the things we already have in flagship phones that the Oppo matches. We have the top-of-the-line processor (Snapdragon 8 Gen 3), 1-120Hz screen refresh rate, and 16GB of RAM for multitasking. These elements are standard for flagship phones, and they are also present.

So, as you can see, the main points where the Find X7 Ultra offers something different from other flagships are the camera and the design. Even if Oppo doesn't launch the Find

Overall, it seems like we need some new designs. And even more creative freedom with cameras. Take care, Samsung and Apple of the world.
