Windows 11 24H2 Will Come With AI Upscaling For Not Just Video Games, But Other Apps،

Microsoft is set to release a Windows 11 feature that will unlock high-resolution upscaling to improve video game performance. The feature is already available on the Windows 11 24H2 beta, or what Microsoft likes to call Insider build, which is available to a limited number of users.

How to enable the Auto SR feature in Windows 11?

X (formerly Twitter) user @PhantomOfEarth discovered the feature in Windows 11 version 24H2. The name of the feature is “Auto Super Resolution”. Its description reads: “Use AI to make supported games smoother with improved details.” The user also mentions that users will receive a switch to enable/disable the feature, as well as per-app options. The feature can be found in Settings > System > Display > Graphics.

Windows 11 Auto SR will benefit video games as well as classic games

This would be the first time Windows has included an AI-based scaling feature. Until now, graphics card manufacturers have offered this functionality through AI upscaling technologies that help increase the effective frames per second delivered by a video game. However, what's different is that upgrading Windows 11 can also smooth out other apps, such as media players, web browsers, and older games that don't support FSR or Modern DLSS.

Automatic SR requirements

For now, the feature is available on machines equipped with Nvidia RTX graphics cards. However, since it is compatible with NPUs, it should also run on Intel's latest Core Ultra processors. Microsoft is expected to release Windows 11 24H2 Update in the second half of this year. Apart from AI scaling, the upcoming update will also bring other features including multiple AI capabilities to the device.
