SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – A woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries after falling on the 16th hole Friday at TPC Scottsdale during the WM Phoenix Open.

The incident occurred late in the afternoon and police cleared part of the stands near where the victim fell.

According to a statement from the Thunderbirds, the civic organization that organizes the PGA Tour event, police and firefighters “responded quickly to the scene to provide immediate medical attention to the injured fan and then safely transported him to a local medical center for further evaluation.”.

It's unclear whether the woman fell from the general admission stand that lines the left side of the fairway leading to the green or from a luxury suite above. Officers were seen watching from behind the stand. They let the supporters return to the emptied section after the victim was transported by firefighters.

It is unclear whether the victim had been drinking before the incident.

“The WM Phoenix Open works closely with local law enforcement, fire and medical organizations and the PGA TOUR to strategically place emergency units throughout the tournament grounds to quickly respond to situations health and safety,” the statement said. “We will provide additional details if appropriate, out of respect for medical confidentiality.”

The 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale, the centerpiece of the golf extravaganza known as “The Greatest Show on Grass,” is known for its raucous crowds of up to 16,000 daily fans packed into a raucous three-way stadium levels.
