If Tuesday’s preseason game against Brooklyn is anything to go by, Patrick Beverley is locked in and ready to play a key veteran role on and off the court for Philadelphia this season.

Forget the fact that it’s only preseason. Beverley was still fired up after Ben Simmons committed a serious foul on Sixers rookie Filip Petrušev, chirping the Australian from the sideline.

Beverley committed his second technical foul of the game, leading to the 35-year-old’s ejection in the fourth quarter – but it was worth it according to the man himself.

Speaking on ‘The Pat Bev Pod’ following that match, Beverley explained that Simmons didn’t just get a little too physical with the Philadelphia rookie.

On the contrary, Beverley also said Simmons “chirpted” at Petrušev — and that didn’t sit well with the 76ers guard.

“First of all, Ben Simmons is a hell of a talent,” Beverley opened, making sure to point out that none of her criticism was aimed at the Australian’s actual performance itself.

“It’s good to see him back there. He looks strong. He had an impact on the match yesterday. So when it comes to basketball, I have no problem with Ben Simmons. I love Ben Simmons when it comes to basketball.

“He was chirping to one of my recruits. Like, come on. Filip with an F. See what I’m saying? Are you gossiping about this guy? You dirty it hard.

“I talk to you the whole match, you don’t say anything. Tobias (Harris) is cooking your ass, you’re not really saying anything… you have eight turnovers… I just didn’t understand Ben’s bark at our rookie.

“Talk to me. I talked to you the whole game anyway. Talk to me. That’s what I don’t like.

“But during the match he looked good. The jump shot looks good, he passed the shit out of it, fast as fuck. He had an impact on basketball, so I’m not taking basketball away from him. “His booty is too high for him to be Ben Simmons…sometimes guys are too haughty for not having done much. But he looked as good as fuck, he looked strong.

Petrušev said after Tuesday’s match that he appreciated the veteran’s support.

“He supports me there,” Petrušev said, according to NBC Sports Philadelphia.

“Not only there, in practice too. And not just for me, but for everyone. He brings crazy energy and he’s there for everyone, he supports everyone.

“After those three, I felt he had my back and he had my back, so that gave me confidence. And in this particular situation, I was like a real veterinarian. Thanks to him.”
