Google releases February Pixel Android 14 update with functional and security patches

It's the first Monday of the new month, which means that with Google returning to its old release schedule, it's time for the February functional and security patches will be released to eligible Pixel devices. This list includes the Pixel 5a (5G) to the Pixel 8 Pro and includes the Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold. You can find the update by going to Settings > System > Software updates > System update. Simply follow the instructions to download the February update to your phone.

The functional side of the update, which includes bug fixes, includes:

Camera

• General improvements to system stability and performance under certain conditions on Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.

Display and graphics

• Fixed corrupted display under certain conditions on the Pixel 8 And Pixel 8 Pro.
• Fixed an external display issue under certain conditions on the Pixel folding.

FrameWireless

• General improvements to Wi-Fi stability and performance under certain conditions on the Pixel 8 And Pixel 8 Pro.

For example, a vulnerability, CVE-2024-22012, was discovered in the bootloader of Pixel devices and assigned a severity rating of “High.” An issue in the password verification method allows an attacker to authenticate as another user.

Google has previously said that it will release the updates as soon as they have completed the necessary testing instead of releasing them on a specific day. However, since the beginning of 2024, monthly software updates have been available on the first Monday of the new month, as in the past. If this continues, you can expect the next update to be released on Monday, March 4. Circle the date in your calendar.
