Like the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the Galaxy S24 Ultra also features a titanium frame. This material makes the new phones more durable and slightly lighter than their predecessors. That doesn't mean the phones have the same build quality, though, and to find out which phone has the most titanium, Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything defined the Galaxy S24 Ultra in fire.
Nelson had already does the same thing with the iPhone 15 Pro Max and discovered that the titanium frame remained intact after the abuse it had received. This wasn't entirely surprising, however, as the oven the phone was set on fire inside wasn't hot enough to burn titanium.

THE Galaxy S24 Ultra was also subject to the same conditions. As is the case with the iPhone 15 Pro MaxTHE Galaxy S24 Ultra is not made entirely of titanium as that would make the phone too expensive.

THE Galaxy S24 UltraThe outer frame has a cosmetic titanium border and the inner structure is aluminum, with plastic in between as an interlayer.

Specifically, the internal structure is made of 6061 aluminum, while the outer frame is made of grade 2 titanium, according to an XRF scan. For reference, the iPhone 15 Pro MaxThe outer frame is made of grade 5 titanium.

There are many grades of titanium and each has different characteristics. Grade 5 is harder than Grade 2, although the latter also offers an excellent balance of moderate strength.

When Nelson burned down the Galaxy S24 Ultra, he succeeded in extracting titanium from it. High-end phones from Samsung and Apple appear to use the same amount of titanium, judging by the thickness of the titanium exoskeleton.

THE iPhone 15 Pro Max contains between $10 and $15 worth of titanium, according to Nelson, while Samsung used between $3 and $5 worth of raw materials. Of course, if you take into account the molding and shaping process, the cost would be higher.

Regardless, the titanium exteriors of both Galaxy S24 Ultra and the iPhone 15 Pro Max are more aesthetic than structurally important, but Apple's custom solid-state diffusion process and higher-quality titanium likely make its phone a bit more durable than Samsung's flagship.
