Here’s another phone that will probably pack Tongzi (Snapdragon 8 Gen 4) and will clash with the Galaxy S25،

The Galaxy S24 has been around for five minutes, and yet here we are discussing the Galaxy S25 which is due out in 2025.

However, this article does not cover the technical details of next year's flagship Galaxy lineup. This is a potential competitor – no, not US rivals to the upcoming iPhone or Pixel phones from Apple and Google, respectively. It's Xiaomi.

You see, the Galaxy S25 lineup is expected to feature Tongzi.

Tongzi, as any tech-savvy person will tell you, is the codename for Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset.

Qualcomm's latest current chipset – Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 – powers the Galaxy S23 Ultra, OnePlus 12 and many other Android flagships. Needless to say, the Snapdragon 8 generation 3 is one of the best chipsets in 2024 and its successor is expected to continue the good work.

Recently, a sample of the Gen 4 chipset was detected, delivering divine results in the Geekbench 6 benchmark tests: 2,845 (single-core score) and an impressive 10,628 (multi-core score). This is well above the multi-core score of 7249 according to the Snapdragon 8 generation 3 running the Galaxy S24 Ultra and the 7281 multi-core score recently enabled by the A17 Pro chipset found in the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Where is Tongzi also found?

Now there are reports that Tongzi, aka Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, will be installed in the upcoming Xiaomi 15 Pro (via GizChina).

This is another phone that not only is far from being released, but its predecessors (the Xiaomi 14 line) also failed to launch globally. The global release of the Xiaomi 14 series is expected to be announced during MWC (Mobile World Congress) which will take place from February 26 to 29, 2024 in Barcelona.

But back to the Xiaomi 15. Apart from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, the upcoming flagship is said to bring satellite connectivity capabilities.

It is said that the 8 Gen 4 chipset will no longer use the ARM CPU architecture, but will come with a NUVIA core. In 2022, Qualcomm purchased Nuvia for $1.4 billion and decided to produce custom cores to replace Arm's Cortex cores.
