There are some things we already know about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 application processor (AP) that Qualcomm will announce later this year, likely in October. It will likely power the Galaxy S25 Ultra (which makes my head hurt just thinking that the Galaxy S24 Ultra just came out yesterday). We also know that AP will release Qualcomm's own CPU cores as replacements for Arm Holding's Cortex cores.
We also expect that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (codenamed Tongzi) will not have power-inefficient cores. Instead, it will feature two large, high-performance “Phoenix” CPU cores and six mid-performance “Phoenix” CPU cores. And tipster Digital Chat Station accessed his Weibo account (via Wccftech) to claim that 4GHz speeds for the Tongzi mobile chip (Snapdragon 8 Gen 4) are no longer a dream. Although the leaker didn't specify which core would run at the 4GHz speed, it would likely be the two large, high-performance Phoenix cores.

Speaking of Snapdragon 8 generation 3, chipset, component configuration includes the aforementioned Cortex-X4 Prime processor core (clocked at up to 3.3 GHz), five Cortex-A720 Performance processor cores (running between 3 GHz and 3.2 GHz), and two cores Cortex-A520 Efficiency processor (clocked up to 2.3 GHz). You can see the change coming with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 as a second high-performance core will be added and the two low-power cores will be replaced with two additional mid-performance cores.

Next year, there is speculation that Qualcomm will share production of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 between TSMC and Samsung Foundry. In 2022, low returns from Samsung Foundry led Qualcomm to transfer production of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 to TSMC, make some small changes, and call the TSMC-built chip Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Since then, TSMC has been solely responsible of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the Snapdragon 8 generation 3and most likely the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.
Samsung Foundry has improved its output, so we'll have to see if in 2025 Qualcomm will share some of its Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 business with the world's second-largest contract foundry or keep it all for TSMC, which is number one.
