“Robbie Williams has not made an offer to purchase Port Vale Football Club and there have been no conversations about this,” the club said.

However, it has been confirmed that the Take That singer has taken up an official role with the club.

“Robbie and his team attended the match last weekend, where he became club president and officially opened the suite which now bears his name,” the statement continued.

Williams – who has sold more than 75 million records worldwide – is known to be a long-time Port Vale fan and has often been seen attending matches at the club's Vale Park stadium.

But any prospects of a purchase have been denied by Port Vale, with owners Kevin and Carol Shanahan affirming their commitment to the club.

“As owners of the club, the Shanahan family remains fully committed to Port Vale FC,” the club said.
