Marcus Smith out of England’s Six Nations opener with injury،

England fly-half Marcus Smith has been ruled out of this weekend's Six Nations opener against Italy with a calf injury after limping during a training session on Monday, l assistant coach Kevin Sinfield.

With fly-half Owen Farrell making himself unavailable for selection for his well-being, Northampton's Fin Smith is set to make his international debut.

“[Marcus] unfortunately won't be here this weekend,” Sinfield told reporters.

“We have received the analysis report but we are waiting to understand exactly what it means for us going forward. He is not fit for this weekend.”

British media reported that the 24-year-old was seen leaving training on crutches and was due to undergo a scan.

England are already without centers Ollie Lawrence and Oscar Beard, as well as hooker Luke Cowan-Dickie, for the match in Rome on Saturday.

Manager Steve Borthwick could turn to George Ford at No.10 if he decides against giving uncapped Fin Smith a debut.

Borthwick is expected to announce their starting line-up on Thursday.
