Zoom Announces Dedicated App For Apple’s Vision Pro, To Be Available From February 2, 2024،

While some apps like Netflix and Spotify won't release a visionOS compatible app right away, others are working to get an early seat on the mixed reality roller coaster that is Vision Pro. More recently, the popular video conferencing platform Zoom came along and announced the creation of an app for the upcoming headset.

The visionOS version of Zoom will arrive with several features

Zoom's visionOS app will be available starting February 2, 2024, when Vision Pro becomes widely available. The app “seamlessly blends video conferencing with users’ physical space, blurring the lines between in-person and remote meetings,” the platform mentions in the official press release. The app will use the headset's exceptional audio and video system.

Additionally, Zoom is also launching a few new features with its visionOS app. First, during video conferences, users will appear in the form of their avatars or 3D Personas. Aside from the overall appearance, Personas will also copy users' facial expressions and hand movements, much like the FaceTime app for Vision Pro does. Then, the Spatial Zoom feature allows users to resize the Zoom window to any size.

Later this year, users will also benefit from 3D object sharing and Zoom team chat

Although Personas and Spatial Zoom are available with the launch of Vision Pro, some features will roll out later this year. These include 3D object sharing, Zoom Teach Chat, and real-world pinning. As the name suggests, 3D Object Sharing will allow users to share three-dimensional files in the context of an environment. The feature should be handy for animators or game designers.

While Zoom Team Chat will allow Vision Pro users to communicate with each other, real-world pinning will allow users to pin up to five Zoom Meetings participants anywhere in their physical space, with the ability to remove pinner user background. According to Zoom, this should help users “feel more connected to the people in the meeting.”

Is Vision Pro facing slow interest from developers?

According to a report from App Developer Magazine, several factors contribute to low developer interest in Vision Pro. First, there is a limited supply of headsets, which cost a whopping $3,499, far more expensive than a flagship smartphone in 2024. Additionally, optimizing a two-dimensional interface into one that should using the three-dimensional environment around it requires a significant amount of research. and resources.

The recent situation with App Store commissions and restrictions could also be at play here. However, despite the limited interest, Vision Pro still integrates several apps, including Disney+, ESPN, Prime Video, Carrot Weather, Zoom and Telegram. According to the report, the number of apps specifically designed for the headset stands at almost 200, which is expected to increase in the coming days as the headset reaches more users.
