It's certainly not easy to choose just one product from our long list of the best premium wireless Bluetooth headphones available today to recommend to a potential buyer with unlimited financial resources, but if you put a gun to our head proverbial (and collective), we would probably opt for the Sony WH-1000XM5.
The latest installment in the company's wildly popular WH-1000 franchise is still too young for us to seriously think about a sequel, having seen the light of day in the summer of 2022 after the unveiling of its predecessor about two years earlier, and compared to that of Apple. AirPods Max or Bose QuietComfort Ultra, you can actually get these bad boys at surprisingly reasonable prices with pretty much regularity.
For example, a new Amazon and Best Buy deal shaves about $70 off the $399.99 list price of WH-1000XM5 cans in three color options about a month after an identical holiday promotion ended. This previous deal was available intermittently from Thanksgiving through Christmas, which made it seem… not so special.
But after it finally expired, we were somehow worried that such a large discount would not return until spring (at the earliest), which was obviously unjustified. Keep in mind that Amazon actually sold the
Sony WH-1000XM5 for an even lower price than it did a few weeks ago, but just for a (very) limited time and in a single black paint job.
Technically, the e-commerce giant can only connect its cash-strapped premium headphone customers with discounted WH-1000XM5 units in “Midnight Blue” as of this writing, while the Black and silver models are sold and shipped from third-party merchants.
Best Buy, of course, handles sales and shipping for all three versions itself, although if you don't hurry, its own stocks could be sold out before you have a chance to place your order.
As for what makes the Sony WH-1000XM5 so great, you probably don't need much explanation, but if you do, the answer is…basically everything. The design, active noise cancellation, overall sound quality, 30-hour battery life, voice calls and connectivity are all impeccable, although we have no doubt the WH-1000XM6 will (eventually) find a way to do move things forward. the next level… one way or another.
