Elon Musk’s X To Test “Not A Bot” Subscription For Mitigating Bot Accounts

Since Elon Musk took over Twitter, a lot has happened for the microblogging platform. From restructuring the company’s workforce to changing the platform’s name to Now, X has announced plans to test a new $1 annual subscription to provide basic functionality.

X to introduce ‘Not A Bot’ subscription service

Almost all social networks and instant messaging apps have experimented with a subscription model, which provides an additional source of revenue. For example, Meta’s new Verified subscription offers verification on Facebook and Instagram. Although X has already implemented a Blue for verification, it will soon test the new “Not A Bot” subscription.

However, instead of offering exclusive features to users, this will lock down essential features of the platform, like liking someone’s tweet, reposting it, or quoting someone else. The idea behind this is to mitigate bot accounts and spammers. Additionally, fees will vary depending on a country’s exchange rate. Therefore, the ‘Not A Bot’ subscription in India could cost around Rs. 80 per year.

“Not a bot” will be mandatory for Active X users

Those who do not pay the fees to X will only be able to use the platform to read articles, watch videos and follow others. In other words, they will not be able to interact with the posts or express their views on them on their timeline. Therefore, the new subscription would be mandatory for anyone wishing to be active on X.

The new subscription will first be available to X users in New Zealand and the Philippines. However, there is a good chance that the “Not A Bot” subscription service will be rolled out to more countries soon.
