Google has started rolling out a new shade for the Pixel 8 that will be released later this month.

The Mountain View giant published a not really enigmatic message on X with a binary coded message that translates to: “Fresh year, fresh drop”.

As The Google website mentions, it will be a Minty Green color, and the photo posted alongside the teaser also gives us a first look at the shade. It looks funkier and brighter than the colorways currently available.

Google did not specify whether both Pixel 8 and 8 Pro will be available in Minty Green but the teaser only shows the latter. Google will publish the Pixel 8 color variant on January 25 and by The edgeyou will only be able to get it through Google.

Google subtly hinted that a green Pixel 8 is on the horizon. For example, the company already sells a new silicone case for the Pixel 8although the range is currently only available in Hazel (green-gray), Obsidian (deep black), Rose (pink-orange), Porcelain (white) and Bay Blue (sky blue).

As spotted by an eagle's gaze EditorGoogle also briefly listed a model with a green camera bar, fueling rumors that a new model was on the way.

Companies are launching their phones in new shades mid-cycle to boost sales. This isn't a standard practice for Google, however, as the company has only released one special variant: the barely blue Pixel 4a.

Although no official sales data is available, the Pixel 8 The series appears to be doing quite well, with one report indicating that Google was the only brand to see an increase in shipments in the second quarter of 2023.

New Pixel 8 will have the same specs and design as the models currently available, but the fresh hue is a smart strategy on Google's part to reignite interest in its phones in the face of renewed competition from Samsung in the form of the Galaxy S24.
