LaLiga files complaint over Atletico chants towards Vini Jr.،

LaLiga will file a complaint with a Spanish court over alleged racist chants directed at Real Madrid striker Vinícius Júnior by a group of Atlético Madrid supporters on Thursday.

Chants such as “Vinícius you are a monkey” were heard as fans entered Atlético's Metropolitano stadium on Thursday evening, ahead of the Copa del Rey round of 16 derby which Atlético won 4- 2.

LaLiga confirmed to ESPN on Friday that it would report the matter to prosecutors.

ESPN contacted the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), which said it was the country's anti-violence commission that should act in cases like this. Neither the club nor Vinícius have commented on the latest racist episode.

Earlier this month, the Spanish FA announced that it would host Brazil at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid in an international friendly match on March 26 to raise awareness of racism following the repeated racist abuse of Vinícius by opposing fans in Spain.

Vinícius has been the victim of racist insults on several occasions since his arrival in Spain five years ago.

A match at the Mestalla between Real Madrid and Valencia last season was stopped in the second half after the Brazil international identified a fan in the crowd behind the Valencia goal as having racially abused him.

On social media after that match, Vinícius said that “racism is normal in La Liga” and claimed that “in Brazil, Spain is known as a country of racists.”

In May 2023, four people were arrested in connection with the hanging of a model wearing a Vinicius jersey on a bridge near Real Madrid's training ground in January before last year's Copa del Rey match against Madrid. 'Atlético.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and the country's government have urged Spanish authorities to respond to the racist attacks against Vinícius.

LaLiga filed complaints with authorities over racist insults or chants against Vinícius, some of which were closed by prosecutors.

In October, La Liga unveiled a social media hate monitoring system as part of its fight against racism.
