X finally rolls out audio and video calls on Android, too،

In October last year, X (formerly Twitter) introduced video and audio calling support for iOS users, allowing those with an iPhone or iPad to enjoy this feature for some time now . Unfortunately, Android users were initially excluded, but now it looks like that's about to change.

It's been a bit of a wait, but audio and video calls are finally coming to the X app for Android. According to X developer Enrique Barragan (via The edge), you may need to update the app to access this feature. Additionally, it appears that any user can receive calls, while the privilege of making calls is reserved for X Premium subscribers.

Restricting outgoing calls and other recently introduced features, including extended posts, to X Premium subscribers appears to be the company's strategy to attract new subscribers. X Premium costs $8 per month or $84 per year. In fact, X Premium subscriptions start at $3 per month for the Basic tier (with ads). However, X's help center doesn't specify which tier includes the outgoing video and audio calling benefit. It might take a little while to roll out to all Android users, but the feature will be on the way soon. Whether you're on iOS or Android, the setting is simple: just go to Settings > Privacy & security > Direct messages > Turn on audio and video calls to turn it on or off.

If you enable it, you can also manage who can call you. You have the option to set restrictions, only allowing calls from people in your address book, users you follow, or exclusively verified users.

X CEO Linda Yaccarino shared the news that video and audio chat are coming to the platform in August 2023. It's all part of her and owner Elon Musk's big idea to turn X into an app ” All “. And it seems that they are getting closer to this vision because just recently, the company obtained its 15th money transfer license. This opens the door to new payment features, allowing users to send money to each other.
