Man City, West Ham discussing Kalvin Phillips loan – source

Manchester City are in talks with West Ham over a loan deal for Kalvin Phillips, a source has told ESPN.

West Ham are one of several clubs to have expressed an interest in Phillips during the January transfer window and have begun negotiations over a temporary transfer until the end of the season.

City, according to a source, want to receive a loan fee of £7 million ($8.9 million) and include an obligation to make the deal permanent over the summer, although it could be reduced to an option.

Phillips wants to leave the Etihad this month to return to regular first-team football and retain his place in the England squad ahead of the European Championships in Germany this summer.

The 28-year-old has only started two matches this season, the last of which was a meaningless Champions League group game against Red Star Belgrade on December 13.

City are prepared to let Phillips leave, but want any offer to reflect his status as an established England international, even if he has struggled to play under Pep Guardiola.

Since his £43 million move from Leeds United in 2022, Phillips has started just two Premier League games, both after City were confirmed as champions last season.

West Ham manager David Moyes has had a long-standing interest in Phillips, ever since he attempted to bring the midfielder to the London Stadium from Leeds in January 2022.
