Samsung launched the Galaxy S24 series on the 17thth January which includes 3 smartphones- Samsung Galaxy S24, Samsung Galaxy S24 PlusAnd Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. The series was announced worldwide with pre-orders beginning January 17 and deliveries beginning January 31. While the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus are mostly similar to their predecessors, the Galaxy S24 Ultra comes with a few notable updates. These include an additional 50MP periscope lens, a new chipset and a titanium frame for durable construction.

However, among all these key specifications, it is important to unveil two more things. While one of them improves performance, the other less so. Let's talk about them one by one.

Exynos 2400: the first to use FOWLP technology for thermal management

Samsung has used the Exynos 2400 deca-core chipset for the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ in India. The brand claims that this is the first ever SoC to use a Fan-out Wafer Level Package (FOWLP) to provide better thermal management.

This FOWLP technology provides greater space for I/O connections, allowing electrical signals to travel quickly and efficiently. Exynos has improved heat management by creating packages with lower heat resistance, in a small form factor so that the device using the chip remains cooler even when applications and games are run for long durations. This means that aggressive gaming sessions won't heat up your Galaxy devices at the moment.

The technology offers an 8% improvement for multi-core and a whopping 23% improvement for single-core performance. It will offer a 40% smaller form factor and reduce the thickness by 30% by removing the substrate.

Reports claim that the Plus model of the Galaxy S24 series, powered by Exynos 2400, offers better performance in 3D Stress Mark Solar Bay compared to the Galaxy S24 Ultra which is powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy. Additionally, the hexa-core Samsung

Although the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3's GPU also saw a boost, Exynos using its 4LPP+ and TSMC's 4nm process also has the same power consumption for the GPU.

Apple-inspired AOD on the Galaxy S24 Ultra

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra comes with an Apple-style always-on display, enabled by default. Using this display, the screen will continue to glow with the set wallpaper even when the device is not in use. This is when the user does not enable AOD. Unlike the Galaxy S23 Ultra which used a black screen, One UI 6.1 forces the Galaxy S24 Ultra to use this AOD with muted colors and a lock screen wallpaper.

The settings menu offers a new toggle using which you can disable this AOD. Just turn off the “Show lock screen wallpaper” toggle which will return the display to a black screen like the Galaxy S23 Ultra. It's quite surprising to see that Samsung rolled out the Galaxy S24 Ultra with this type of display enabled. Previously, the company had no plans to offer a toggle to return to the black screen, but since this new type of AOD received a mixed response during the launch event, the brand was forced to offer a swap to the original black screen instead of keeping the live wallpaper. .

However, not everything is bad in this live wallpaper display. There is also a nice addition. If your wallpaper contains a definitive subject like your partner, parent or pet, you can enable the ability to automatically clear the AOD background. When you do this, it's not the whole screen that glows, but your subject's face.

Some find this glowing wallpaper idea distracting during the day and night and for these users, it would be better to go back to the black screen. Samsung tried to do something different with this type of screen, but it may not please everyone. If you want to try it yourself, pre-reserve your Galaxy S24 Series device and get it from 31st January. The Galaxy S24 series has been better than usual as the brand has rolled out a host of Galaxy AI features to make it future-ready.
