One of the buzzwords mentioned during the Galaxy S24 announcement was “AI” or artificial intelligence. Since this is Samsung's most advanced phone yet, it makes sense that the South Korean company would take advantage of the power of AI.

Interestingly enough, all the advanced AI features available on the Galaxy S24 flagships are powered by Google Cloud, Samsung announcement earlier today. According to the South Korean phone maker, the Galaxy S24 will be the first Samsung device to deploy Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI via the cloud.

This means that other Galaxy devices could benefit from similar AI features in the not-so-distant future. Gemini was designed from the ground up to be multimodal, meaning it can generalize and understand, operate and combine different types of information such as text, code, images and video.

At launch, Samsung's native apps will benefit from the power of Gemini, as users will be able to enjoy the summary feature in Notes, Voice Recorder and Keyboard.

Imagen 2, Google's most advanced text-to-image streaming technology, will also be part of the Galaxy S24's AI package. These features can be found in Generative Edit in S24's Gallery app and provide users with intuitive photo editing capabilities.

Using Generative Edit will require a network connection and Samsung account login. Additionally, a visible watermark will be superimposed on the image output when saving to indicate that the image is AI-generated. It's also important to mention that editing with Generative Edit always results in a photo resized up to 12MP.

Samsung also confirmed that it was the first Google customer to test Gemini Ultra, the Mountain View company's most capable and largest model for highly complex tasks. As such, all Galaxy S24 models will use Gemini Nano, an integrated LLM that comes with Android 14.
