Samsung has launched the Galaxy S24 series globally. The flagship series which includes the Samsung Galaxy S24, Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is up for pre-order in India. Although the brand claims that the premium Ultra model comes with upgrades over its predecessor, are they enough to entice the user to spend more money? Let's compare what has changed since then Galaxy S23 Ultra to the Galaxy S24 Ultra to conclude.
Design and build
The main difference between the Galaxy S23 Ultra and the Galaxy S24 Ultra is its build quality. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra has a titanium frame similar to the iPhone 15 Pro models. This makes the smartphone more durable than the Galaxy S23 Ultra and has also changed the color options.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra has narrower bezels than the Galaxy S23 Ultra and the front of the S24 Ultra is not as curved as its predecessor. Although the overall look is similar, the titanium frame gave it a bulkier, boxier look with a flat front panel. The camera sensors on the back are arranged similarly to those on the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Performance
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, unlike the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Performance is improved as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 scored 7051 points in the Geekbench multi-core test, compared to the AnTuTu score of 5077 for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
The storage options remain the same, but Samsung has used UFS 4.1 storage instead of UFS 4.0 on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The Galaxy S24 Ultra also comes with Galaxy AI features.
In terms of software, the Galaxy S24 Ultra runs One UI 6.0 and will get 7 years of software updates.
Additionally, Samsung has rolled out a host of Galaxy AI features to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. These include tone adjustment, translation during live calls, voice note, background blur and much more.
Display
The screen size of the Galaxy S24 Ultra is similar to that of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which is a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED panel. However, this time the refresh rate has been increased from 120Hz to 144Hz. The peak brightness has also been increased from 1,700 nits to 2,600 nits.
Battery
Technically, the battery and charging speed are the same with 5,000mAh and 45W wired fast charging, but the battery will last longer thanks to the new chipset.
Camera
While it's not very huge, there is an upgrade in the camera department. The main camera is still 200 MP with a 12 MP ultra-wide sensor and a 10 MP optical sensor. Instead of a 10 MP periscope lens, there is a 50 MP periscope camera offering 5x optical zoom.
For selfies, there will still be a 12 MP snapper on the front.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is essentially similar to its predecessor with minor updates in some departments like display, camera and design. The biggest upgrade is in performance, as it comes with an all-new chipset, while the least upgrade is in the battery department, where nothing has changed.
