From Face Scans To Tracking Routines: Here’s What Buying Apple’s Vision Pro Will Entail For Customers،

Buying Apple's Vision Pro won't be like buying an ordinary gadget from the Apple Store. Last year, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman explained that customers would have to make an appointment to get their hands on Apple's next mixed reality headset. Over time, other reports corroborated the same thing. From what it looks like, Apple wants customers to have the best experience possible, and for that it will spend around 20-30 minutes with each user to demonstrate how it works.

Step One: Scan User Faces for Perfect Light Seal and Foam Cushion

In his latest newsletter, Gurman writes that the Vision Pro demonstration will be “the most sophisticated sales pitch Apple has ever made.” This could take up to “25 minutes”, but the whole process could take longer. First, users would have their faces scanned by an Apple Store manager. This would determine the perfect light tightness, bracelet size and foam cushion for each customer. If users wear prescription glasses, managers will scan the lenses for power information and equip the headset with the required ones.

Step Two: Perform several follow-up routines to complete the setup

Next, staff should explain the basics of the mixed reality headset, including how the visionOS operating system works, how to control the pointer, and how to make selections to interact with the interface. After that, the user must wear the headset and perform several tapping and tracking routines to calibrate the device. It was after all these things that the Vision Pro demonstration would begin.

Third step: browse the interface

Gurman writes that the demonstration will include opening the Photos app to view images. Then, gradually, staff will guide users through watching 3D movies, which consist of a scene that “makes users feel like they're walking a tightrope.” Customers will then learn how to use Vision Pro in place of their Mac or iPad, with multiple apps and windows open simultaneously. However, the company's main challenge remains to make this process exciting and not tiring for customers.

Those interested in taking a closer look at Vision Pro's interface and features should consider visiting “m1astra” on Discord. The channel contains many videos on the setup procedure, interface, controls and other aspects of the upcoming headset. The device is set to go on sale in the United States on February 2, 2024.
