South Korean tech giant Samsung is all set to hold its 1st Unpacked Event for 2024. The brand will launch the flagship product Samsung Galaxy S24 series of smartphones in 17th January at 11:30 p.m. IST. However, ahead of the first major launch event of the year, the brand has rolled out some essential health tracking features for Galaxy Watches.

Your Samsung Galaxy Watches can now monitor blood pressure and EKG. The features have been rolled out as an OTA air deployment update and are currently available on the Samsung Galaxy Watch series 6. It will soon also be available on the Galaxy Watch 5 And Galaxy Watch 4 series.

These trackers will help users monitor their health and carry out regular check-ups. Both features have received clearance from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization and users need to download the Samsung Health Monitor app to get these features. The watches are equipped with a photoplethysmogram (PPG) sensor that can record systolic and diastolic pressure, as well as pulse rate, further recording it in the Samsung Health Monitor app.

How to take an ECG reading

  • Pair the Galaxy Watch with a Galaxy smartphone.
  • Wear the watch correctly on your wrist and open the Samsung Health Monitor app on your watch.
  • Lightly place the fingertip of the other hand on the top button of the watch for about 30 seconds. The ECG will be measured.
  • The data will be synchronized with the smartphone associated with the watch and the report will be created in PDF format.

ECG is a test that detects the heart rhythm and helps detect any irregularities in your heart rhythm.

How to take blood pressure

  • Download the Samsung Health Monitor app on your Galaxy watch and smartphone.
  • Follow the instructions on the app to calibrate the watch.
  • Wear the watch correctly on the same wrist as during calibration.
  • Measure your blood pressure and view the readings on the watch as well as the app.

A blood pressure test can measure the pressure of the blood pumped by the heart through your arteries.
