Flat sides for an iPhone-inspired design style

Thanks to numerous leaks, the Galaxy S24 the design isn't really a secret.

Leaks say that Galaxy S24 gets a slightly larger 6.17-inch screen, and it might have the same 1-120Hz refresh rate that you previously got only on the expensive Ultra model.

New here is the ability to go down to 1Hz for static content, which also means the phone can be more efficient in terms of power consumption.

We are also expected to have thinner bezels around the screen and higher brightness for easier outdoor use.

The resolution shouldn't change at 1080p, but we don't really mind as it's sharp enough for the vast majority of people.

As for biometrics, you have an ultrasonic fingerprint reader integrated into the screen, unchanged from the last generations, and you also benefit from facial recognition based on 2D images.

Galaxy S24 camera

Zoom and edit super powers thanks to AI

Featuring a triple lens system at the rear, the Galaxy S24 camera looks a lot like the previous model.

The leaks also indicate that Samsung will use the same main camera sensor for the third year in a row, and there will be no changes to the ultra-wide and 3X zoom camera hardware either.

But don't rush to blame Samsung for laziness.

Rumors have it that Samsung might finally bring new color science to images, so they no longer look too saturated, and Samsung itself has released some teasers for a set of new “Galaxy AI” camera features which will give the S24 “Magic Editor” photos and videos. powers. THE Galaxy S24 will work on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 generation 3 chip in most markets, but not all. Some countries are expected to receive a different version, based on a Samsung Exynos chip, and these chips – while flagship quality – are traditionally not as powerful. In the US, UK, and Western Europe, you'll likely get the Snapdragon version.

And while performance will definitely improve and we've seen rave reviews on this new Snapdragon 8 generation 3 chip, Samsung seems to be focusing more on what it calls “Galaxy AI.”

Think ChatGPT-like features all around the Samsung interface and camera experience. We won't know the full extent of this in the coming days yet, so stay tuned for the exciting details here.

In pure specifications, the Galaxy S24 should carry 8 GB of RAM, less than the 12 GB planned for larger models. Less RAM means background apps will have to reload more often and multitasking might not be as smooth for power users, but we'll have to test this to see if it makes a real difference.

Just like last year, we expect to see a base 8/128GB configuration and a second 8/256GB option.

Galaxy S24 Software

THE Galaxy S24 will arrive with Android 14 and Samsung's latest One UI 6.1 on top of that.

This is the same software we've seen hit the market recently. Galaxy S23 series, but we still don't know if all the new Galaxy AI features will be exclusive to the new S24 series, or if they will come to older models.

Samsung has already shown a few demos of the Galaxy AI, and in one of them we saw how to take an ice cream cone and easily enlarge it in the Gallery app, so photo editing will get a big boost inch on the S24.

Finally, we have yet to hear about any software updates on the Galaxy S24. Previous Galaxy models came with four years of major OS updates and five years of security updates, but the recently launched model Pixel 8 The series raised the bar with a promise of seven years of operating system updates. We are not as optimistic about the evolution of charging speeds. For years, Galaxy phones have used 25W charging via wire and wireless charging speeds around 15W, and that's exactly what we've come to expect again on this S24.

Samsung tweaks the speakers on its phones slightly, and while nothing seems to change, if you listen to a Galaxy phone from just a few years ago, you'll notice the difference.
